Selection Process of an IAS Officer
The Selection of the IAS officers is done from the exam that is called as Civil Service Examination. The CSE is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year. In the civil Service Examination, there is a total of three phases of exams that one has to clear:
- Preliminary Exam
- Mains Exam
- Interview
- All India Merit etc.

Eligibility Criteria Required to Appear For Civil Service Exam
A candidate must have passed graduation from any government recognized college or Institute or University in any stream.
- There is no special requirement for any particular stream. Every person who is a graduate and under the age limit criteria can apply for this exam.
- A degree from foreign Universities is also acceptable if that college or university is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
- Candidate must not be younger than 21 years old and should not be older than 32 years old.
- There are also some special relaxation has been given to the candidates who belong to the Other backward Class (OBC) or SC/ST (Scheduled caste or Scheduled Tribes) etc.
- A candidate who belongs to OBC and has a Certified Caste Certificate will be 3 years of Relaxation in age (Age between 21 years old to 35 years old).
- A candidate who belongs to SC/ST and has a certified caste certificate will get five years of relaxation in age (Age between 21 years old to 37 years old).
