What is NEST?

NEST Exam stands for National Entrance Screening Test (popularly known as NEST). This is a College Entrance Examination in India that is conducted for admission in the National Institute of Science, Education and Research and Center of Excellence in Basic Science. These colleges offer Integrated M.Sc Programmes. The admission in the colleges is done through the Entrance Examination which is called the NEST Examination. NEST Exam Eligibility Criteria:

There is nothing much in the Eligibility Criteria. To apply for the NEST Examination, Here are the following criteria that a candidate must match to apply for the examination:

  • Candidate must have passed class 12th with Science Stream (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) etc.
  • Candidate must have passed from any recognized Board (State Board or Central Board).
  • For the General candidates, marks should not be less than 60% While for the OBC, SC/ST and other candidates it should not be less than 55%.
  • To apply for the 2021 National Entrance Screening Test Exam, the Candidate must have passed 12th in 2019 or 2020, not before that.
  • Age Limit: A candidate must be born on or after August 1, 2001.
  • There is some relaxation that has been given to the candidate as per the government norms.
  • To the SC/ST candidates, there would be 5 years of relaxations in age. No relaxation will be given to the General and OBC candidates.

The relaxation criteria keep on changing every year as per the government norms. You must check the official website before applying Online. The relaxation criteria that I have shared here are on the basis of the previous year pattern.

NEST 2021 Admission Procedure:

The admission will be done on the basis of the Examination that one has to clear. The Exam would be conducted Online (Computer-Based Test). All the Questions in the Exam would be in Objective form with multiple choice Answer. The Exam would have five sections in the examination: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and General Paper etc. The total number of questions would be around 230. There is negative marking in the examination but only for few questions. General Paper Section would have negative marking while for other sections only a few questions would have. The Admit Card of the NEST Examination will be available before 3 weeks or may be four weeks of the examination. There is nothing difficult in the syllabus if one has studied well in the 11th and 12th. The NCERT of class 11th and class 12th would be enough for the preparation.
