CAREER IN LAW AFTER 12TH

A career in law has always been a dependable better option that attracts youngsters who are passionate about justice. Students wishing to pursue a career in law can either take a three-year law course after graduation. Integrated law 5 year after 12th pass in Arts Science and Commerce stream. In fact, the 3-year course is now giving way to 5 years, which is seen as a better option. In most cases, colleges run a 3-year course only for those whose in graduation. The five-year course is for those who want to take law as a career after 12th.

Career in Law

Available Courses in LL.B

  1. LLB, Duration: Three years
  2. BA LLB (Hons), Duration: Five years
  3. B.Sc LLB (Hons), Duration: Five years
  4. B.Com LLB (Hons), Duration: Five years

The LLB syllabus is regulated by the Bar Council of India which sets rules and legislation regarding legal practice in the country.

Lawyer/Advocate Work

  1. These law professionals play the role of counsel and advisor for their clients.
  2. In civil (criminal) or criminal (criminal) cases, they favor the plaintiff (Complaint) or the defendant (Defendant) in the respective courts.
  3. He files a lawsuit on behalf of his client in court and also argues in his favor.
  4. He also clarifies the legal conditions for a particular case.
  5. As an adviser or solicitor, he advises his client which law will apply to the facts related to his (client’s) case.
  6. On reaching the case in court, the solicitors also give the necessary advice to the lawyer advocating the related case.

How to become an Advocate

In the initial stages after studying law, one has to work with a lawyer as a junior assistant. During this period, filing, research, taking dates from the courts, participating in court proceedings with the employing advocacy and drafting the case have to be done. After understanding these basic things related to advocacy, work can be started independently as an advocate.

How to become a Solicitor

Work as a junior in a solicitor firm during an articleship or studies. Here too, juniors have to do everyday work (e.g. reading the case, filing suits and preparing notices etc.) associated with the advocacy profession. During this time, juniors get an opportunity to understand the matters related to various laws (Labor, Taxation and Industrial Law etc.). After a few years of experience, juniors become as skilled as their superiors. He can then become a solicitor in any solicitor firm.

How to become Judge

Similarly, one can also make a judge by passing the Judicial Service Examination conducted by the Public Service Commission of the states. Different state fills their vacancy according to their requirement of the post of Judge. There is also an opportunity to become a Solicitor General or Public Prosecutor with long experience of advocacy. At present, there is a lot of potential for law graduates.

Work as a Legal Advisor

Due to this experience, it is possible to get work in government departments and ministries as well. Not only this, a lawyer can also work as a legal adviser or legal council in a firm or organization. Apart from this, they also have the option to work in legal consultancy firms related to tax, excise, patent, labor and environmental law etc. He can also serve as a trustee for various trusts and as a legal reporter in print or electronic media organizations.

Work as a Professor in College / University

Any specialization in Law is done at Masters, M.Phil or Ph.D level. A higher degree helps candidates to get jobs in academics. Law professionals have many career options in addition to becoming a lawyer. He can teach as a lecturer or assistant professor in law colleges and schools. Not only this, he can also get into politics, because he has contact with a lot of people in connection with work.

Minimum Eligibility for LL.B (Law)

Students can choose one of the three-year or five-year Bachelor of Law courses as per their convenience. Admission to the three-year course is received after graduation, while admission to the five-year course is after the twelfth. Universities in the country where  law courses admitted through the entrance examination conducted by NLU. Looking at the admission process of the five-year course, 17 National Law Universities in the country conduct an entrance exam for this called CLAT (Common Law Admission Test).

CLAT 2020 Syllabus / Exam Pattern 

Common Law Admission Test when students who have passed the twelfth with 50 per cent marks can apply in this examination. In the examination, questions are asked from English, General Knowledge, Mathematical Ability, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. Many other universities in the country also have five-year courses in law. All these institutes conduct entrance tests at their level for admission. Negative marking is followed by CLAT that is .25 applicable in this exam.
