There are many ways to join the Indian Army Service. One becomes eligible to join the service as an officer after passing class 12th. One can appear for the entries like NDA (National Defense Academy) Entry and TES (Technical Entry Scheme) of Indian Army etc. Well, here we will only talk about the Officer’s Training Academy which is commonly known as the OTA. What is Officer’s Training Academy:

The officer’s training academy is part of the Indian Army. This is the academy where one gets trained to become an officer in the India Army Service. This is the only academy of the Army where male and female cadets get training together to be an officer in service.

In order to join the Officers Training Academy, there are several ways for this. There is no entry after the 12th. In order to get to an officer Training academy, One will need to have doe at least graduation in any stream from any government recognized University/ Institute or college either its Government, Semi-Government or private. How to Join Officers Training Academy:

In order to join the officer’s Training Academy, There are basically four ways to join the officers Training Academy. Here is the list of the entries that one can appear for to reach the Officer Training academy.

CDS Entry: All the candidates who have done graduation in any stream from any government recognized University/ Institute or college are eligible to apply for this entry. Selection will be done through the Written Exam, SSB Interview and then Medical Examination etc. Age must be between 19 years old to 26 years old.

SSC Technical Entry: A candidate who has done BE or B.tech are eligible to apply for the Technical Entry. The Selection of the candidates will be done through the SSB Interview. The Shortlisting of the candidates for the SSB will be done on the basis of the marks scored in the graduation. Age must be between 19 years old to 24 years old.

NCC Special Entry: A candidate who has done graduation and has an NCC C Division certificate are eligible to apply for the NCC Special Entry. The Selection of the candidates will be done through the SSB Interview. NCC Cadets will directly appear for the SSB Interview without any Written Exam or Shortlisting criteria etc. Age must be between 19 years old to 24 years old.

Judge Advocate General: This entry is one of the finest entries to join the Service. All the law graduates can apply for this entry who have scored at least 55% marks. The Selection of the candidates will be done through the SSB Interview. The Shortlisting of the candidates for the SSB will be done on the basis of the marks scored in the graduation. Age must be between 19 years old to 26 years old.

Officer’s Training Academy Exam:

In most cases, there is no exam, teh selection is done through the SSB Interview. but one appears for the CDS Entry, He/she will appear for the Written Examination. For the written exam, One will need to prepare the following subjects.

There is no recruitment vacancy released by the Officer’s Training Academy. One can appear for the CDS entry which is usually help in the month of April or September etc. You can check the details on the official website of Union Public Service Commission. Or can also appear for the NCC Entry, SSC Special Entry or JAG Entry (Judge Advocate General) Entry etc. You can check the details about the availbility of the vacancy and apply for this. About Officers Training Academy:

There were used to be the two officers training academy. One was in Gaya and one is in cheennai. The OTA Gaya has been closed in the year 2019 due to some issue. As per some news sources, There were n enough candidadates for the OTA Gaya as well as for the OTA chennai. That is why the OTA Gaya has been shut down and Officer’s Training Academy Chennai is still in action.

Indian Armed forces has shortage of officers but the Selection procedure is still not easy. Indian Armed forces only selects the best ones.
