Required Eligibility Criteria:

  • In order to be eligible to get admission for a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science, the candidate must have completed their class 12th with physics, chemistry and biology as compulsory subjects from any recognised board.
  • Those candidates who wish to pursue a master’s degree in veterinary science must have a bachelor’s degree with an aggregate of 60% from any recognised college.
  • Candidates will have to clear NEET or other entrance exams such as AP EAMCET, UP veterinary entrance exam, AAU VET, UPCATET, AIPVT, RPVT, OUAT etc.
  • There are no limit criteria but some colleges have set age limits.
  • Some colleges require English as a compulsory subject along with Physic, Chemistry and Biology.

How to Become a Veterinary Doctor

How to Become a Veterinary Doctor After 12th:

Candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree in veterinary science or animal husbandry are eligible to be an Animal Doctor or Veterinary Doctor. The only educational qualification required is 10 + 2 with biology as a common subject.

The admission process starts with the Entrance exam which is conducted at the national level like the All India Pre Veterinary Test (AIPVT) or All India Common Entrance Exam (AICEE) conducted by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

After completing the bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science or animal Husbandry, candidates are required to register with the ‘State Veterinary Council’ to start the practice as a veterinary Doctor.

Educational qualifications:

Those who are willing to be a Veterinary doctors must possess certain educational qualifications.

After completing 12th from PCB, students can pursue under graduation in Veterinary science or animal husbandry from any university or college which is recognised by VCI ( Veterinary Council Of India ). There are lots of reputed colleges who offer this course. The duration of this course is 5 years.

Admission to this course at any college is done on the basis of the exam conducted by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). Apart from this, there are some colleges that take admission on the basis of the entrance exam conducted by them.

Registration in the veterinary council of India:

After the completion of this course, the candidates are required to register in the state Veterinary Council to get the license so that they could practice. The license is provided to the only candidates who have done 6 months internship under the council.

Higher education:

Candidates who have completed under graduation from Veterinary Science or Animal Husbandry can further go for master’s degree program to gain specialisation in any of the field given below:-

Joining as Veterinary doctor:
