How to join the Indian Coast Guard as a Sailor:

There are basically two ways to join the Indian Coast Guard as a Sailor. One can join the Coast Guard DB Branch or Coast GD Branch. Here the DB stands for Domestic Branch and GD Stands for General Duty Branch etc. Here are the details about the criteria and selection process:

Required Eligibility Criteria for Sailor:

DB Branch: In order to apply for the DB branch, A candidate needs to have passed class 10th or class 12th from any government recognized board or Institute with at least 50% marks. A candidate must be having aged between 18 years old to 22 years old. There is also some relaxation has been given to the candidates regarding the masks criteria as per the categories.

GD Branch: In order to apply for the General Duty Branch, A candidate must have passed class 12th with a Science stream from any government recognized board. One must have scored at least 50% marks. Selection Process of Sailor:

The Selection process of Sailors is the same for all. There are some rounds of selection that a candidate has to clear to be considered for the All India Merit List. Here are the phases that one has to clear:

  • Written Examination
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • Medical Examination etc

How to Join Indian Coast Guard as an Officer:

There are not many vacancies to join the Indian Coast Guard Service as an officer. One can join the Technical and Non-technical branch of the Indian Coast Guard as an officer. Here are the details:

Required Eligibility Criteria:

There are basically two departments for the Officers like Technical and Non-Technical Branch in the Indian Coast Guard Service.

Educational Qualification for Officer (GD): One just needs to have done graduation in any stream from any recognized college, Institute or University etc with at least 60% marks.

Educational Qualification for Technical Officer (Engineer): A candidate must have done graduation in any technical aspects like B.tech or BE degree from any government recognized College, Institute or University etc with at least 60% marks.

  • The age of the candidate between 20 years old to 24 years old.
  • There are some relaxations for the reserved categories candidates like 3 years to OBC candidate and 5 years to SC/ST candidate. Selection Process of Indian Coast Guard Officer:

There are basically two stages of selection that one has to clear. After the application form, the candidates will be shortlisted for the Preliminary Examination and all the candidates would clear this phase of selection will proceed for the Mains Examination. The Selection stages are tough and due to the rising competition for this exam, it has become very tough to clear. In short, One will appear for the following rounds of selection:
